Small Space Indoor Gardens

What's not to love about plants? Sure, they can make a bit of a mess sometimes, but they add so much warmth to the decor of a space- not to mention that they keep the air fresh, especially in the winter months when we shut ourselves in and all the fresh air out. Plants can take up precious space, but don't let the size of your home hold you back from enjoying some beautiful greenery. Here are 10 great space-saving ideas for mini indoor gardens that get two green thumbs way up.

1. If you're a little hesitant to jump into the plant world, start off with a simple and sweet hanging light bulb garden like the one from Green Obsessions pictured above. What a great way to save your used light bulbs from the landfill and add some interesting green decor to your space!

2. If you love to cook, you know what a difference fresh herbs make to a recipe. This hanging herb garden is a DIY project from HomeMade Modern; it would look great in your kitchen without taking up any precious floor or counter space.

3. This rustic wall-mounted herb garden in a Portico Design kitchen was spotted on Decor Pad.

4. This modern herb garden fits in perfectly with the decor in this kitchen makeover we found on Design Hunter LA.

5. Keep fresh herbs at your fingertips with a simple hanging garden from Bright Green USA, spotted on Houzz.

6. If you're just looking for some nice pops of greenery throughout your space, there are some really great-looking options. Hanging definitely seems to be the way to go to save space, and it's a great way to add some interest for a wandering eye and fill unusable space with something beautiful. Keep it simple with a single row of plants like in this DIY macrame plant holder tutorial from Design Sponge.

7. This one from Morganours is an easy way to freshen up your kitchen, even for the rookie DIY-er. Just hang a rod between two cupboards and hang a few of your favorite plants from it.

8. Create some truly living art by making a framed vertical planter box to hang on the wall, like this DIY from Better Homes and Gardens.

9. If you have some shelf space to spare, you can create a beautiful collection of plants like this one from Vintage Revivals. It would be a stunning focal point in any room.

10. If you do happen to have some extra space set aside, consider showcasing a collection of smaller plants within a great piece that you'd like to show off. This amazing vintage aquarium-like structure filled with cacti was found in the pages of The New Bohemians by Justina Blakeney.
