Voskonosnaya: tallest tree in the world
Voskonosnaya palm or Tseloksilon Andes – Colombia’s national tree and the tallest tree in the world. This type of palm grows in large groups only in the high valley Kokora (Department of Quindio, northwest Colombia).
The Kokura Valley is located on the upper reaches of Quindio, at an altitude of 1800 to 2400 meters and covers an area of 60 km²
The palm of Valley Kokura grow up to 50 meters in length and live for about 120 years.
Botanists said that before the discovery of electricity the wax of this palm was used in the manufacture of soap and candles, and the tree trunks was used in building (houses and water systems).
